PROVERBS AND SAYINGS
Proverbs and sayings reveal to us something of language's inner
nature and of the character of the people who speak it. As we progress
through the months - let us discover the honesty of proverbs and
sayings as they speak to your inner nature as well:
By experience we grow wise

The cow knows not what her tail is worth till she hath lost it

The wish is father to the thought
RIDDLES

you may, wonder you might...find the answer to the riddle tonight!
Both day and night I stay in bed,
Yet never sleep or rest my head;
I have not feet to skip or hop;
And yet I run and never stop.

POEMS
In poems there flows a sense of a worldview from the heart. They
come to us in times when we see a connection to our world around
us...beautiful, funny, wondrous...
The Animals in Me
An eagle sees things from great height;
A lion's heart is strong;
An antelope is fleet in flight;
Wisdom, courage, and good will
In me belong.

WISH, WONDER AND SURPRISE
Wonder results from observation and discovery of the realities that
are at work in the world around us, and in ourselves...
Leonardo DaVinci worked to discover the wondrous working of the
human eye and the power of sight. In his notebooks he wrote details
of the results of this study and ended with these words:
"Who would believe that so small a space (the eye) could contain
the images of all the universe? O mighty process! What talent can
avail to penetrate a nature such as these? What tongue will it be
than can unfold so great a wonder? Verily done! This it is guides
the human discourse to the considering of divine things.
Here the figures, here the colors, here all the images of every
part of the universe are contracted to a point.
O what a point is so marvelous!
O wonderful, O stupendous necessity, thou, by thy law constrainest
all effects to issue from their causes in the briefest possible way!
These are the miracles..."

PARTS OF SPEECH
Speech is more than words, but active within our form of communication.
To understand, to know, to reap, to grow...
The Verb
I am a verb, I like to act,
To walk, to run, to dance - it's a fact.
To plow, to build, to work, to strive,
I like to feel that I am alive!
But sometimes I just say "I am,"
And act as meek as a little lamb.
TONGUE TWISTERS
Tongue twisters are such a delight, and great fun for the "telephone"
game (whisper to a friend, they pass it along, only to discover if
the last person understood the original communication). It is an
enjoyable act of giving and receiving in communication.
"The farmer flings the fruitful seed afar upon the furrowed field"
"Eight elegant elephants elegantly eating eggs"
Pass it along...
